TOSHIBA LAUNCHES NEW CT SCANNERS INCORPORATING AIDR 3D AT ECR 2012

ZOETERMEER, NETHERLANDS, March 2012 – At ECR 2012 in Vienna, Toshiba Medical Systems Europe proudly presents AIDR 3D, the latest development in iterative dose reduction.

As a commitment to low dose imaging, Toshiba Medical Systems Europe began a comprehensive upgrade to AIDR 3D software for the entire European install base of Aquilion ONE, Premium and PRIME scanners. The resulting effectiveness of AIDR 3D, Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction software, in clinical use will be demonstrated at the booth.

In order to make this ground breaking technology available for a wider patient population, Toshiba Medical Systems decided to introduce two new series of CT scanners, incorporating AIDR 3D and equipped with new powerful processors allowing very fast iterative computations.

Aquilion RXL series, incorporating AIDR 3D, featuring 16 and 32 slice configurations.
New Aquilion CXL series, incorporating AIDR 3D, available in 64 and 128 slice configurations.
AIDR 3D works in both the image and raw data domains, dramatically reducing the noise in the reconstructed images. To ensure routine low dose examinations AIDR 3D is fully integrated into the automatic exposure control system. The maximum level of dose reduction is automatically applied before the scan and the reconstruction software determines the correct number of iterations to ensure the best image quality for all clinical settings.

In routine clinical settings, AIDR 3D provides images with improved spatial resolution and a dose reduction of up to 75%. AIDR 3D is also unique as there is a minimal impact on reconstruction times and therefore can be implemented into routine clinical practice without interrupting workflow.
Traditionally, computationally intensive iterative reconstruction algorithms have resulted in lengthy reconstruction times limiting their clinical usage. Toshiba has optimized AIDR 3D software in combination with powerful hardware resulting in a reconstruction speed of up to 30 fps* and total reconstruction times just a few seconds longer than filtered back projection reconstruction. Demanding situations such as in Emergency Departments, where fast diagnosis requires fast workflow, are also able to enjoy the dose reduction available with AIDR 3D.

Toshiba's commitment to reducing patient dose is always been at the forefront of development. The introduction of the RXL and CXL series reflect this ongoing commitment. AIDR 3D is another step forward in further improving patient healthcare whilst reducing patient dose.

*For Aquilion ONE, Aquilion PRIME, and Aquilion CXL
